Allah is the only God, he has no partners. The largest sin in Islam is called Shirk (idolatry and Polytheism), and the Diwali festival is a celebration of Shirk.
Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.”

Can Muslims Wish Diwali? Is Wishing Happy Diwali Haram in Islam
It is haram for Muslims to wish Happy Diwali since it is seen as forbidden.
The Prophet forbids us from following in the footsteps of the kuffaar and becoming like them. A person will be regarded as kaafir if they participate in the Kuffaar celebration out of respect for such occasions.
“A person who worships Allah Ta’aala for fifty years and gives an egg to a disbeliever to commemorate the Kuffaar festival will become a kaafir and lose all his righteous deeds,” said the renowned jurist Abu Hafs al-Kabeer (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). Being a part of a celebration without honoring and appreciating the occasion won’t make you a kaafir.
Nevertheless, this would be regarded as makrooh-e-tahreem. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said that when Allah Ta’ala looks at someone who imitates a people, they shall be considered among them.
Because one would be wishing them good in their kufr and shirk practices, it is therefore forbidden to wish non-Muslims a happy Diwali.
