Durood e Ibrahim

Durood e Ibrahim is a prayer that we have remembered and memorized right from childhood and we pray it regularly after Attahiyat in every Salah.

Everybody looks up to our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H.), since it is through him that Allah conveyed his message and instructed humanity on what is righteous in this life.

Thus, Darood e Ibrahim prays to Allah that He deepens our affection for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and grants us the ability to get closer to him and benefit from his closeness.

This Darood also gave honor and gratitude to individuals who followed in the footsteps of the Prophet (PBUH) and never deviated from Allah’s commandments or opposed others, even if they were hurt.

This is demonstrated by the story of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) in the Quran, who strictly followed Allah’s command of sacrificing his son, even when Shaitan was trying to mislead him. and Allah saved Ismail (A.S.) for indeed it was a test.

What is Durood e Ibrahim?

A durood is a type of prayer and blessing that we send to our Prophet (PBUH). According to the Quran, Allah states that he and his angels conveyed the durood to his Prophet (PBUH), and he commands us to recite or send Durood to our Prophet (PBUH). Since Durood Ibrahim is recited in each and every Salah prayer after the Attahiyat, it is among the most often recited durood. In this wonderful Durood, we ask Allah to send peace and blessings to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his family.

اللّٰہُمَ صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ عَلٰٓی اٰلِ مُحَّمَدٍکَمَا صَلَّیْتَ عَلٰٓی اِبْرٰھِیْمَ وَعَلٰٓی اٰلِ اِبْرٰہِیْمَ اِنَّکَ حَمِیْدٌ مَجِیْدٌ اللّٰہُمَ بَارِکْ عَلٰی مُحَمَّد ٍوَّ عَلٰٓی اٰلِ مُحَّمَدٍکَمَابَارَکْتَ عَلٰٓی اِبْرٰھِیْمَ وَعَلٰٓی اٰلِ اِبْرٰہِیْمَ اِنَّکَ حَمِیْدٌ مَجِیْدٌ

Allahumma Salle ‘Alaa Muhammadin Wa’Alaa Aali Muhammadin Kamaa Sallayta ‘Alaa Ibraaheema Wa’Alaa Aaali Ibraaheema Innaka Hameedum Majeed. Allahumma Baarik ‘Alaa Muhammadin Wa’Alaa Aali Muhammadin Kamaa Baarakta ‘Alaa Ibraaheema Wa’Alaa Aaali Ibraaheema Innaka Hameedum Majeed

Durood E Ibrahimi In English Translation

“O Allah send peace on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as you sent peace on Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and the family of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) Indeed, you are praiseworthy and glorious. O Allah, bless the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as you blessed Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and the family of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) Indeed, you are praiseworthy and glorious.”

Virtues of Darood e Ibrahim

Here are some of the Virtues of Darood e Ibrahim as mentioned in the Hadiths:

“Whoever recites Durood upon me once, Allah grants him ten blessings, Forgive his ten sins, And raises his levels”


“Indeed on the Day of Judgement, The one who reads more Durood upon me will be more closer to me”


When to recite Durood e Ibrahim?

Reciting Durood Ibrahim every day is preferable. Nonetheless, there are a few unique occasions that are suggested, such as after Attahiyat of each Salah, on Fridays and after Adhan.

Sending peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) through daily Durood recitation is the best method to show your affection for him. You have the option to recite the shortest Durood, Allahumma Salli Ala Muhammad Wa Ala Ali Muhammad, or the longest, most authentic Durood.

Durood e Ibrahimi Hadith

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself taught Durood e Ibrahim. Let’s look at the Hadith below in relation to Sahih al-Bukhari 6357:

Narrated `Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Laila:

Ka`b bin ‘Ujra met me and said, “Shall I give you a present? Once the Prophet (ﷺ) came to us and we said, ‘O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ! We know how to greet you; but how to send ‘Salat’ upon you? He said, ‘Say: Allahumma Salli ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala `Ali Muhammadin, kama sal-laita ‘ala all Ibrahima innaka Hamidun Majid. Allahumma barik ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala all Muhammadin, kama barakta ‘ala all Ibrahima, innaka Hamidun Majid.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari 6357)

  • The person who recites Durood Shareef will gain ten degrees in status, 10 sins will be pardoned, and 10 good actions will be recorded.
  • Hunger, poverty, and suffering are reduced by reciting Durood Sharif.
  • Every day recitation of Durood Sharif purifies the heart.
  • Recitation of Durood Sharif is a source of acceptance of Duas

The Benefits of Reciting Durood Shareef on Friday

It is important to recite the Darood Shareef with affection and purity at all times. To take advantage of the Darood Shareef, you can select any Darood and any day. But Darood e Ibrahim is the greatest, and Friday is the most beneficial day.

Every Friday, if someone recites the Darood, their day will be blessed and full of wonders. Just one Darood recitation and Allah Ta’ala favours him tenfold.

The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said in Hadith: “Whoever supplicates Allah to exalt for me, Allah would exalt him ten times.”


Benefits of Reciting Durood Shareef 1000 Times

There is always a benefit to reciting Darood Shareef. It is said that reciting Darood a thousand times will cleanse one’s sins and bestow many blessings.

For each Durood recited, ten sins are forgiven and ten rewards are added. A Durood Shareef is a Quranic passage that praises the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Significance Of Durood e Ibrahim

A Darood is an expression of gratitude and admiration. It is said as a solitary invocation to the Creator, Allah.

We acknowledge that Allah is the only being and that His beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His final messenger to the human race in this form of devotion.

We recite a Darood in the following manner, following a structure like other formal prayers:

“O ALLAH! Send blessings and peace upon Muhammad and his family for the Message of truth you have given us through him.”

Importance of Durood e Ibrahim

Allah Almighty’s blessing is Darood e Ibrahim. It can be recited on any other day, not just Friday.

Whatever time you choose to recite this prayer, you will find innumerable treasures at the conclusion of your journey.

The peace that results from knowing that the Creator fully welcomes us via the blessings received by Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the highest recompense one may acquire by saying this prayer and meeting its requirements.

Importance Based on Quranic Verses

“Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.” 

[Quran, 33: 56]

The verse above demonstrates how the Almighty Himself bestows favors upon Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and how His angels also revere Him.

This passage makes it very clear that we should send the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) blessings with the highest regard and reverence.
