Reading from the Mushaf and reading the Quran on a phone are not the same thing. Without Wudu, you can read the Quran whenever you want on your phone, but not from Mushaf. You need wudhu to read from Mushaf.

It is acceptable, according to Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn Naasir al-Barraak, to recite the Quran from memory without making Wudu. But in order to appreciate Allah’s words, it is always preferable to purify yourself before reading the Quran.

There is a hadith that states that you must be pure in order to touch the Quran. The Prophet (may he rest in peace and blessings) said:

“No one should touch the Quran but one who is pure.”

However, reading from a laptop, a smartphone, or a recording of the Quran do not all violate the prohibition on reciting from printed sources (Mushaf).

So, yes, you can touch and read the verses on your phone’s screen and read the Quran without doing wudu. And even if you don’t have a Mushaf with you, it’s an excellent way to recite the Quran wherever you are.

You can read the Quran online here, anytime, anywhere on any device.

Nonetheless, it would be preferable if you could perform Wudu before the course. must be respectful of Allah’s words.

Can You Recite the Quran From Memory Without Wudu?

Certainly, you can avoid reading the holy Quran from the Mushaf if you were able to remember it. As a result, Wudu is not required before reciting it from memory.

Can I read the Quran without performing Wudu from the Mushaf?

Let’s examine what the Quran says on this topic in order to respond to this question.

No one should touch the Mushaf without doing Wudu, Allah commanded us in this verse. All experts concur that you must be in the state of Wudu in order to touch the Mushaf.

If you’re unsure of what Mushaf is, it is a true copy of the Quran (physical copy of the Quran). If Wudu was not performed, you are not permitted to touch or hold the Quran with your hands. Yet there is something in between that you can use to hold it.

What distinguishes mushafs from Quran apps?

Because these mobile phones that contain the Quran in written or recorded form do not fall under the same ruling as the Mus-haf, it is OK to touch them without first purifying oneself and to bring them into the bathroom with one. This is because putting the Quran on a mobile phone is not the same as writing it in a Mus-haf. It takes the shape of waves that emerge and vanish on the screen, and its words are not fixed. The Quran and other materials might be found on the cell phone.

How did technology make it simpler for us to recite the Quran?

In the past, the Mushaf was the only way that could be used to read the Quran, therefore if you are not in the state of Wudu or don’t have a Mushaf on you, you will not be able to recite the Quran.

To recite the Quran, all you need is a smartphone with a Quran App/ Website. Not only has technology made it simpler for us to recite the Quran whenever we want, but we can also learn the correct recitation through a variety of Apps and online courses. Simply download a Quran learning application or go for a free online course and watch it.

Do you now recognize the difference? Because of technology, we are able to recite the Quran whenever and wherever we want. For instance, if you were caught in traffic or waiting for a lecture to begin, wouldn’t it be preferable to utilize this time to draw closer to Allah and recite the Quran?

What do scholars think about reading the Quran without performing wudu?

The scholars all agreed that it is forbidden to read the Quran from the Mushaf without performing Wudu. Nonetheless, it is permissible to recite the Quran from memory after reading it on a  laptop or smartphone without Wudu because the Wudu ruling does not apply here.

When asked about holding and reciting the Quran without doing wudu, Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn Baz responded as follows:

“It is not permissible for a Muslim to touch the Quran when he does not have wudu, according to the majority of scholars. This is the view of the four imams (may Allah be pleased with them), and this was the view expressed in the fatwas of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

A sahih hadith concerning that has been narrated from ‘Amr ibn Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him), stating that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wrote to the people of Yemen: “No one should touch the Quran except one who is Tahir (pure).” This is a jayyid hadith which has a number of other isnads which strengthen it.”

Meaning of This

This teaches us that touching the Mushaf (Quran) without doing Wudu is a grave mistake and that no one should handle the Mushaf unless they are completely pure.

Moreover, it is not permitted for some people to move the Quran from one location to another without doing Wudu. You should be in the state of Wudu to manage the Mushaf from one location to another.

If you need to move the Quran but are not in the Wudu condition, you can grasp it with something but avoid touching it with your hands.

The majority of Islamic scholars and the Quran itself hold the opinion that touching the Mushaf without performing Wudu is improper.

Additionally, according to the experts, it is acceptable to memorize it, recite it via a smartphone application, or simply listen to it without Wudhu. Also, if you are not in the Wudu state and then someone calls you to correct his recitation, read the Quran while that other person holds the Mushaf for you.

Wudu is only required when reading from the Quran; otherwise, Wudu is not required. You can read the Quran from its English translation without doing Wudu. In the Holy Qur’an, Allah declares:

None touch it except the purified. [Qur`an 56: 79]

The prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) frequently recited the Qur’an by memory and never let anything stop him.

When asked about this, Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir al-Barrak responded as follows:

“It is well known that it is not essential to be free from minor impurity when reciting Quran from memory, or even from major impurity, but purifying oneself before reciting Quran, even from memory, is better because it is the Word of Allah and it is more respectful towards Him to only recite it when in a state of purity.

When reading from the Mushaf it is essential to be in a state of purity in order to touch the Mushaf, because of what it says in the famous hadith: “No one should touch the Quran but one who is pure.” And because of what it says in many reports from the Sahaba and Tabi’in.

The majority of scholars hold the opinion that it is prohibited for anyone who is unclean to touch the Mushaf, whether it is for reading or any other purpose.

Conclusion: Can you Read Quran on phone without Wudhu?

On the basis of this, it appears that smartphones and other similar devices on which the Quran may be recorded do not fall under the same regulations as the Mushaf because the Quranic letters in these devices differ from the Mushaf’s.

They don’t actually exist in the form that is read; instead, they exist as waves that can be formed into letters as needed. As a result, when one switches to another verse, the letters vanish from the screen. On the basis of this, it is acceptable to touch the phone or tape on which the Quran is recorded and to read from it even if one is not pure. And Allah is All aware.
