Prophet Muhammad’s concern for his ummah on the day of judgment is mentioned in a Hadith. Sayyidina Anas (Peace be upon him) related that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said the following. Lets know more about Prophet Muhammad’s concern for his ummah on the day of judgment:
On the Day of Judgment, every human will be there waiting. barefooted on the vast land, waiting. What are they waiting for, you ask?
Waiting for Allah to issue the command to start the Judgement.
On the Day of Judgment, when certain people’s suffering reaches an all-time high and they have endured too much heat, horror, agony, and anxiety, they will surge in unison with one another like waves. They’ll begin looking among themselves for a powerful person who can speak up for them so that Allah can begin the judgment. Undoubtedly, some people will lack patience greatly. Whether they end up in Heaven or Hellfire doesn’t matter to them. They only desire the verdict.
People will approach prophets to request assistance at some point. Even when they were on Earth, some of them didn’t believe in God! Some of them even made fun of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the other prophets in the past! They don’t care, though. These unbelievers are now going to the prophets for assistance because they are so desperate.
They are thus there. These hopeless people, some of whom are Muslims and some of whom are not, will then begin to search for prophets. All of them are hopeful that the prophets would be able to implore Allah to begin the judgment process.
It’s interesting to note that they have no intention of pleading with the Prophets to help them enter Jannah on their behalf. Rather, they want to invite the Prophets to speak on their behalf so that Allah can begin the Judgement Day right now. They have simply grown really impatient.
They want Allah to deliver them from the appalling environment they are in right now. They are so miserable and in so much pain that they don’t appear to care what happens next. They’re becoming quite impatient now.
They will therefore first go to the Prophet Adam (a.s.), addressing him as “O Adam, you are our father.” Why can’t you see how horrible our situation is? Pray to your Lord on our behalf. Ask Him to relieve us of this burdensome standing. Please. Can you request that Allah start the judgment? You were made by Allah (SWT) with His own hands. You were given a soul by him. He taught you the names of everything and made His angels prostrate before you. You must hold a special place in Allah’s eyes.”
Sadly, Adam (a.s.) will not wish to carry out their request for them. Currently, he is frightened and concerned about himself.
He will respond, “Nafsi! Nafsi! [Myself! Myself!] Today, more than any other time in the past or in the future, my Lord is furious. I’m unqualified to make the intervention. (You see) I ate from the tree and disobeyed Allah. As a result, I feel guilty. Go to Noah. He is the original messenger sent by Allah to the people of the planet. Allah referred to him as “a grateful slave.”
Thus, when they approach Prophet Noah (a.s.), he will respond, “Nafsi! Nafsi! [Myself! Myself!] Today, more than any other time in the past or in the future, my Lord is furious. I’m unqualified to make the intervention. (You see) I asked my Lord for anything about which I was (properly) ignorant [see Quran; Chapter 11, Verses 45–46]. As a result, I feel guilty. Meet Abraham. He is the Most Merciful’s closest friend.
They will then go to Prophet Abraham (a.s.), however, he will respond, “Nafsi! Nafsi! [Myself! Myself!] Unlike any other time in history or in the future, my Lord is furious right now. I am ineligible to make intercession. (You see) Three times, I was lying. I feel guilty. Consult Moses. Allah spoke to him specifically, hence he is the one. Additionally, it was to him that Allah gave the Torah.
Thus, when they approach Prophet Moses (a.s.), he will respond, “Nafsi! Nafsi! [Myself! Myself!] Today, more than any other time in the past or in the future, my Lord is furious. I’m unqualified to make the intervention. (You see) I killed a man accidentally. ( Chapter 28 verses 15–16 of the Quran.) I’m embarrassed. See Jesus. He is a servant of Allah, who also sent Mary His word and a messenger. He is a superior soul that Allah created. When he was still a baby in the cradle, he spoke to the people.
Thus, when they approach Prophet Jesus (a.s.), he will respond, “Nafsi! Nafsi! [Myself! Myself! My Lord is today so furious that He has never been furious before and He will never be furious again. I’m unqualified to make the intervention. See Muhammad.
They would then approach Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who will respond, “I am qualified for intercession,”
He will then ask Allah for permission, and Allah will grant it.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will be given words of adoration from Allah that he will use to thank Him that he hasn’t yet heard or understood. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will then glorify Him with those special praise words and bow down before Allah.
Allah s.w.t. will say, “O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.”
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will say, “Yaa Rabb, ummati! Ummati! (O Lord! My ummah! My ummah!)”
Allah s.w.t. will say, “Go and bring forth everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of a barley grain.”
Therefore, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will go and carry out that. Then he will return and glorify Allah with those unique words of praise and bow down before Allah once more.
Allah s.w.t. will say, “O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.’
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will say, “Yaa Rabb, ummati! Ummati! (O Lord! My ummah! My ummah!)”
Allah will say, “Go and bring forth everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of a small ant or a mustard seed.”
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will therefore go and do that. Then he will return and thank Allah with those unique praises, and he will again prostrate himself in front of Allah.
Allah s.w.t. will say, “O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.”
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will say, “Yaa Rabb, ummati! Ummati! (O Lord! My ummah! My ummah!)”
Allah will say, “Go and bring forth from the Fire everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of the lightest, lightest grain of mustard seed.’
In order to bring them forth, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will go. Alhamdulillah!
When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ returns a fourth time, he will glorify Allah with those unique words of praise and again bow down in front of Him.
Allah s.w.t. will say, ‘O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.’
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will say, ‘O Lord, give me permission (to bring forth) all those who said Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah.’
Allah s.w.t. will say, ‘By My Might, My Majesty, My Supremacy and My Greatness, I will most certainly bring forth from it those who said Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah.’
Isn’t it incredible? Even better than saving himself first, our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not. His Ummah is his primary concern, even on the Day of Judgment. Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Ummati! Ummati!” as opposed to the other prophets’ (peace be upon them all) “Nafsi! Nafsi!”
