As-salamu alaykum, dear brothers and sisters. Today, we draw attention to the continuous suffering in Gaza, where countless lives are impacted by the ongoing fight for justice and dignity.
Hollywood actor Andrew Garfield, best known for his portrayal as Spider-Man, is among the latest voices in favour of the oppressed Palestinians.
Andrew Garfield recently shared his profound worry for the innocent people of Gaza in a podcast, reminding everyone that our hearts and minds should be with those in need, particularly the Palestinian people who are still suffering as a result of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
In his interview with the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Garfield made it apparent that his compassion is directed towards everyone who is going through hardship.
He emphasised how crucial it is that we focus our energies on helping those who are forced to live in agony and injustice. Unthinkable destruction has resulted from this battle for the Gaza population.
Over 40,000 Palestinians have reportedly died in the current conflict in the last 12 months alone. This stage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been dubbed one of the bloodiest by the UN. However, a lot of individuals continue to ignore these innocent people’s suffering.
Despite his popularity, Andrew Garfield is still very much involved in world affairs and urges everyone to put the suffering of those who lack security and peace first. The qualities that we Muslims cherish—justice and humanity—are echoed in his discourse.
Andrew Garfield’s remarks on Palestine/ Gaza highlight the significance of speaking up for the oppressed no matter who we are. Shortly after the Israel-Hamas war broke out in October 2023, he and several well-known celebrities, including Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett, and Hasan Minhaj, wrote a letter to President Joe Biden urging an early ceasefire and a stop to the violence.
It is our obligation as Muslims to support those who are oppressed. “The example of believers in their love, mercy, and compassion for one another is like that of a body,” stated Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. The entire body reacts with fever and sleeplessness when one limb hurts. The Ummah’s body is hurting today, and it is our duty to act.
Let’s emulate the voices of justice advocates like Andrew Garfield for Palestine, and innumerable others. Regardless of the size of our platforms, let’s use them to pray for the Gazan people, show support, and spread awareness.
Above all, let us keep them in mind while we say our du’as. May the people of Gaza experience peace, justice, and mercy, and may Allah provide respite to everyone who is oppressed globally. Ameen.
